The Satya N. Atluri Award

ICCES Citation: For his sustained contributions to using computational fluid dynamics to model the low Reynolds number aerodynamics, combustion, and propulsion.
Professor Wei Shyy was the President of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) from 2018 to 2022. He first joined HKUST in August 2010 as Provost and Chair Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Prior to this, he was Clarence L. “Kelly” Johnson Collegiate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Aerospace Engineering of the University of Michigan. He was previously with the University of Florida and GE Research and Development Center in Schenectady, New York.

ICCES Citation: For his outstanding contributions to developing innovative computational methods in topology optimizations, and material and structural homogenizations.
Professor Gengdong CHENG graduated from Peking University in 1964 and received his Ph.D. from Department of Solid Mechanics, the Technical University of Denmark in 1980. He was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1995 and served as President of Dalian University of Technology (DUT), China, during the period 1995-2006.

Xiaojing Zheng, female, PhD, professor in Mechanics, academician of CAS and TWAS, director of the Research Center for Applied Mechanics, Xidian University, the former vice-chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology. Currently, she is members of TWAS Membership Advisory Committee in Engineering Sciences and the ICTAM Congress Committee, the editor-in-chief of ‘Acta Mechanica Sinica’, associate editor-in-chief of ‘Flow’ (JFM sister journal), etc.

Prof. Huiling Duan

Dr. Huiling Duan is Chang Jiang Chair Professor, and Dean of College of Engineering at Peking University. Her area of expertise lies in the interface mechanics of complex media, including mechanics of heterogeneous and complex materials, microstructural design and fabrication methodology of functional composites and advanced materials, and interfacial interaction between fluids and solids with bio-inspired functional surface microstructures. She published more than 200 peer-reviewed journal papers on PNAS, Phys. Rev. Lett., J. Mech. Phys. Solids, Nature Comm., Science Advances, Advances in Applied Mechanics, Applied Mechanics Review, and J. Fluid Mechanics, etc.

Shiro Biwa received the degrees of Bachelor, Master and Doctor of Engineering from Kyoto University in 1990, 1992 and 1995, respectively, in major of mechanical engineering. After working at Kyoto University (1995-1998) and Nagoya University (1998-2004), he was an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Energy Science, Kyoto University (2004-2009) and has been a Professor in the Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University since 2009.

ICCES Citation: In recognition of his seminal contributions to high performance time domain methods for nonlinear dynamical problems in aerospace engineering.
Honghua Dai received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), Xi’an, China, in 2009. He achieved the PhD degree in flight vehicle design from the School of Astronautics, NPU, in 2014. He had been a visiting PhD student in University of California, Irvine from 2010 to 2012 focusing on computational nonlinear dynamics. He is now a Professor with the School of Astronautics, NPU.

Leiting Dong is currently the Deputy Dean of Scientific Research of the School of Aeronautic Science & Engineering of Beihang University. He focuses his studies in digital engineering methods for the design and sustainment of aircraft structures. Special interests include fatigue damage tolerance and durability of metal structures, multiscale analysis and design of composite materials structures, structural survivability design and ballistic protection.
